Reflections 07#
A few weeks ago I read a book “Lord of the Flies” by William Golding. It’s a novel about a group of young British boys stranded on an uninhabited island and their disastrous attempt to govern themselves. The story shown in this book made me think about how cruel and ruthless children can be. Kids are able to do everything, trying to gain the respect and sympathy of their peers. They can hurt or do harm to another person without any further remorse, because they are often unaware of their actions or their consequences. A great example of this is the behavior of children in kindergarten or on the playground. Most of us have once witnessed a situation where the "leader" of a group of children forbade the child to join the game, what causes that the rejected child start to cry, and the "leader" gain recognition of his friends. Situation shown in this book is much more complicated and hard but it still shows this kind of cruel kids behavior.
The book is a great study of the mechanisms of power and the 'us' and 'them' attitudes on which every authoritarian rule relies.
