Reflections #01
Today I talked with my mom about a bungee jumping and she told me that it was "super fun" but now she would never do that. That made me think of how people are getting more scared of different things while they are getting older. In childhood we are scared of many things because they are unknown to us and in adult life we get afraid of them because we know them too much and we are afraid of the consequences. For example -for kids first flight is an big attraction- they are excited and happy, but an adult often only thinks of all threats like plane crashes or terrorist attacks. This is due to the fact that as we are getting older, we gain more knowledge. What goes with that- we are more aware of the fact that we can get hurt or die in every moment of our life because danger is everywhere.
Biologically, our brain is not capable of predicting the consequences of our actions until we are about 18 (it happens a bit earlier for girls than for boys). That's why kids and teenagers are risk-takers - they literally don't see the possible outcomes of what they do.
